We’re Alan and Jane, and the story behind Refuge Long Churn started long before we opened its doors.

For years, the mountains were where we escaped from everyday life. We called that escape Narnia — somewhere we could leave the normal world behind, step through the wardrobe and spend our time doing the things we love.

Over the years we’ve enjoyed the mountains in just about every way we can: skiing, ski touring, walking, mountain biking, road cycling, climbing, via ferrata and paragliding, as well as simply exploring and enjoying life in the Alps.

Many years ago, on our original Narnia Travels website, we wrote that our dream was one day to move to our Narnia and open the door for others to come and share it with us.

​

Well… eventually we did.

​

We now live here in the Tarentaise Valley, surrounded by the mountains and places that we spent so many years travelling to enjoy.

Refuge Long Churn is our way of opening that door.

​

We’ve created the kind of mountain base that we would want to stay in ourselves: comfortable, practical, welcoming and affordable. Somewhere to come back to after a day skiing, riding, walking or exploring — without spending more than you need to on your accommodation.

We live locally and know the area well, so we're always happy to share ideas and recommendations to help you make the most of your stay.

For us, the mountains have always been about experiences rather than luxury. We’d rather you spend your money doing the things you came to the Alps to do.
