How close is Refuge Long Churn to Les Arcs and Peisey-Vallandry?
Refuge Long Churn is in Landry, at the foot of the mountains, with Peisey-Vallandry no more than around 15 minutes away by car or winter shuttle bus. From Peisey-Vallandry you have direct lift access into Les Arcs and, via the Vanoise Express, across to La Plagne and the wider Paradiski ski area.
How do we get from Landry to the ski lifts?
During the winter season, a shuttle bus runs from Landry to Peisey-Vallandry, with the journey taking around 15 minutes. You can travel to Vallandry or get off earlier at Peisey Village and take the new gondola into the ski area. The gondola is included with the appropriate ski pass. Alternatively, Peisey-Vallandry is around 15 minutes away by car.
Is there another way to access Les Arcs?
Yes. One of the advantages of staying in Landry is having more than one way onto the mountain. Take the short shuttle journey to Bourg-Saint-Maurice, where the Les Arcs funicular — locally known as the Funi — leaves from beside the railway station. The Funi takes you directly to Arc 1600, where you join the Les Arcs lift system. It's a useful alternative to taking the shuttle bus or driving to Peisey-Vallandry and gives you a completely different starting point for exploring Les Arcs.
Can we ski the whole Paradiski area from Landry?
Yes. Peisey-Vallandry provides direct access to Les Arcs, and the Vanoise Express connects Les Arcs with La Plagne, giving access to the full Paradiski ski area. You can also drive to Montchavin and start your day directly on the La Plagne side of Paradiski.
Can you ski back to Landry?
Refuge Long Churn is not normally ski-in/ski-out. However, when snow conditions are particularly good, accomplished skiers can ski back down to Landry village. This is not a maintained or marked piste and conditions need to be suitable, so it should be regarded as an occasional bonus for experienced skiers rather than a normal way home.
What happens when there is heavy snow?
Snow is part of winter life in the Alps, and keeping access to the mountain villages and ski resorts open is extremely important to the local tourism economy. The main roads serving Landry and Peisey-Vallandry are regularly cleared and treated during snowfall. Heavy snow can occasionally slow journeys, but snow on the road doesn't normally stop you getting to the mountain. Peisey-Vallandry and Les Arcs also have extensive tree-lined skiing, which can be particularly useful during snowfall and on low-visibility days.

Getting to Landry & the Ski Resorts
Do we need a car?
No. Landry railway station is around a 10-minute walk from Refuge Long Churn, and the winter shuttle bus connects Landry with Peisey-Vallandry. You can also take the train to Bourg-Saint-Maurice and use the Funi to Arc 1600. A car gives you additional flexibility for exploring the wider Tarentaise and accessing different parts of Paradiski, but it isn't essential.
Can we travel from London by train?
Yes. During the ski season, direct train services operate from London to Bourg-Saint-Maurice on selected dates. Landry is then only a short onward train journey away. At other times, you can travel from London by Eurostar and connect with French high-speed and regional rail services. Once you reach Landry railway station, Refuge Long Churn is around a 10-minute walk away.
Which airports are closest to Landry?
Geneva, Lyon and Grenoble airports are approximately two hours away by road, while Chambéry is around 1½ hours away, depending on traffic and weather conditions. Flights into Chambéry are more seasonal.

Is parking available?
Yes. Parking is available at Refuge Long Churn for guests travelling by car. Electric vehicle charging is not available at the property.
